Advanced Solutions and Rockin’ Times are fictional teaching companies used to show how business economics, owner dependence and transaction terms affect ownership choices. Their purpose is to make the tools and reasoning concrete, not to predict the outcome for another business.
Understand what each example is showing
The original Module 2 comparison gives the two companies the same revenue and normalized earnings, then changes the assumptions about risk, transferability and deal terms. Advanced Solutions is more dependent on its owner. Rockin’ Times illustrates a business with more dependable systems and leadership.
The comparison shows why the quality and transferability of earnings matter alongside their amount. It does not prove that every valuation difference is within an owner’s control or that a particular improvement guarantees a sale price.
Keep the original illustration separate from the current book
Recorded examples, original ownership goals, historical actuals, an adopted budget and a proposed future plan are different records. Keep the example’s date and assumptions visible when comparing its numbers.
The later Advanced Solutions Playbook shows completed planning and meeting exercises. A dated financial model supports its selected scenario. Those examples extend the teaching; their figures should not be substituted into an earlier recorded illustration.
Some operational inputs and leadership assessments illustrate different stages in the case. Their stated dates and labels matter. A completed teaching form is not evidence that a real meeting occurred or that a proposed budget was adopted.
Use the example, then complete your own work
When you use a blank exercise and a completed case example, read them together. Follow how the example moves from evidence to a conclusion, then use your company’s information in your private working Playbook. Keep the reference case unchanged.
Missing company information should remain an identified question with a next action. Copying the case’s number into your form does not supply that evidence.
